During the 2008 financial crisis, we discovered Nelson Nash's masterpiece, "Becoming Your Own Banker." This book convinced us that much of our financial education and experience was not rooted in reality but rather in flawed assumptions. We realized that the only way to take control of our financial future was to manage the banking function ourselves.
Instead of handing over our capital to banks and lenders, we chose to build a pool of cash within a dividend-paying whole life policy—an asset that grows steadily, compounds uninterrupted, and remains accessible. By doing this, we become our own source of financing, borrowing against our policy to fund cars, businesses, or other opportunities, and recapturing the interest that we would otherwise lose to others. This approach rewards financial discipline, creates a legacy through death benefits, and offers stability in uncertain markets.
